Oscar Skin Secrets from the Top Med Spa in Arizona

Oscar Skin Secrets

On the last Sunday of February the 84th Academy Awards will take place.  Long before the red carpet is rolled out, the Oscar nominees will be prepping their skin.  When celebrities walk on the red carpet under the barrage of fan and paparazzi flashes, they are expected to look flawless.  Many hours are spent on each celebrity in order to achieve glowing skin and the perfect make-up.

Not everyone has access to a personal makeup artist but with the help of the paramedical aestheticians at North Valley Plastic Surgery Skin Spa, you’ll feel like you do.  Start by implementing a few things into your regular skincare regime that will enhance and clear your skin.

Red Carpet Skin Secrets

Make Your Skin Glow.  Hydrate your skin regularly. Think you’re too busy with work to have a facial treatment?  Schedule with our Arizona Med Spa, look for a lunch time facial with moisturizing properties.  It will minimize the appearance of pores and give you a glowing complexion. Masks with fruit, detoxing herbs, and even chocolate are popular among top red carpet regulars.  North Valley has a Lime Mask that will give your skin a radiant glow that is perfect days before the Red Carpet or photo-shoot.

Remove Your Dead Skin.  Skin is constantly shedding and needs to be removed so your living skin can look its best.   A great product to gently exfoliate and keep your skin clean is Clarisonic Arizona.  Sarah Jessica Parker is a fan of the Clarisonic because it cleans the skin more vigorously than a washcloth.  You can also try Dermaplane in Arizona to shed the outer layer of the skin.  When you use dermaplane you also remove the “peach fuzz hair” so your skin and makeup will look its best on close up.

Award Winning SkinSmooth Your Skin’s Lines.  Ask one of our paramedical aestheticians for a product that is best for your skin type.  Glycolic acid is a rapid exfoliate and will leave your skin feeling smooth and soft. Over time these products can also lighten sun spots and stimulate collagen production giving you a more youthful appearance.  For many patients a topical treatment may not be enough to remove wrinkles when used alone. Botox in Arizona and Juvederm in Arizona are extremely popular with patients because they give immediate improvement with fine lines on the face.

Eliminate Your Redness. When you’ve completed exfoliation use a toner. This will remove dead skin cells and reduce shine without over-drying.  When it comes to toners, a higher percentage of alcohol varies could actually do more harm than good.  Follow toner with ice cold water to reduce redness.

Now Your Skin Timeline. Plan for your walk down the red carpet accordingly.  Tell us what time and date you need to look your best. Many skin treatments require time for your skin to recover.  Give yourself about two days to recover from a gentle glycolic facial, about a week for injectables like Botox or Juvederm.  Plan on staying out of press conferences for at least a week for our more dramatic facial peels like the Vi peel in Arizona or Obagi Blue peel in Arizona.

What Role Does Race Play in Skin Cancer?

Skin Cancer Risks

Skin cancer is more common than any other type of cancer by far.  The Center for Disease Control and Prevention document about 60,000 new cases of melanoma every year but most types of skin cancer never get reported.  Despite the shortcomings of the CDC information, it still allows for an epidemiology study of how skin cancer is influenced by race.  Race and more specifically the darkness of one’s skin are significant components of skin cancer risk.  Darker skin individuals are not immune for the risk of skin cancer.

Most types of skin cancer are associated with ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun or tanning beds, and many races with darker skin are less susceptible to UV damage.  Read our recent blog on UV damage protection. Additionally, certain skin cancers are caused by factors other than UV, such as lifestyle and family history.  Some skin cancers occur on parts of the body shielded from the sun.  Most notably, acral lentiginous melanoma, typically appears on the palms of the hands and soles of the feet and is often fatal.

Latin and Asian patients are at a higher risk to develop basal cell carcinoma, the most common skin cancer. African Americans and Indian Americans are at higher risk for Squamous cell carcinoma, the second most common type of skin cancer.

skin-cancer-4People of color need to be aware that their doctor may be less likely to suspect skin cancer because of their dark skin.  This over generalization can be dangerous for the patient’s health because if a diagnosis of skin cancer is delayed, the disease can be fatal.  The types of skin cancer that are common in dark individuals are some of the most lethal.  Unlikely statistical risk numbers are meaningless if you are the person that gets the disease.  Take charge of your skin and make an appointment with our top dermatologist in Arizona for a skin assessment.
