Body Lift Phoenix

A body lift is an extensive abdominoplasty that will improve saggy skin and excessive fat. Body lifts can address dimpled or irregular skin surfacing such as cellulite. It will tighten the abdominal area, as well as remove love handles and saddle bags, and lift the upper buttocks.

A lower body lift will treat the following areas: abdomen, buttocks, hips, outer thighs, and waist. This is an outpatient procedure, and is done under general anesthesia.

If one has undergone gastric-bypass, lap-band, or any other gastric procedure, he/she should wait until his/her weight has been steady state for at least two months before having a body lift.

Body lifting surgery can be enhanced by doing an anterior abdominal, vertical (up and down) skin excision in select patients (Fleur-De-Lis excision) and by doing an autologous buttock augmentation procedure as well. In the autologous buttock augmentation procedure, the back tissue that is usually excised; instead, it is kept attached and rotated inferiorly to increase medial buttock fullness and curvature.

Our surgeons are all dually trained in both general surgery and plastic surgery; so, we can repair any hernias that are present at the same time as we do the body lift. These outstanding and safe add-ons to one’s body lift surgery set North Valley Plastic Surgery apart from any other plastic or cosmetic surgical practice in the state of Arizona.

What to Expect During the Procedure

The incision is located in the bikini line area and extends all the way around the back. The lower body lift incision will remove the apron of skin and fat, while tightening the remaining tissue. Often times, liposuction is done in conjunction, to give the final result, a smoother appearance. Support sutures are placed to protect the remaining tissue. Dissolvable and Nylon sutures will close the incision site. Four to six drains will be sutured into the areas of operation.

What to Expect During the Recovery Period

Post-operatively, compression garments should be worn to help reduce the swelling. The garments will vary depending upon the areas treated. Any Nylon sutures will be removed within two weeks.

The purpose of the drain is to collect excess fluid from the wound to lower the risk of infection. Drain logs will be provided to keep a record of the output of fluid. Drains will be removed when the output meets the doctor’s specifications.

Restrictions over the next six weeks may include but are not limited to: heavy lifting, pulling, or pushing. It will take several weeks for the swelling and bruising to dissipate.

Body lift surgery is a major surgical procedure that is typically done on high risk patients. The most common types of complications that can occur include those related to wound healing. Typical areas of concern can range from a small open area that scabs over and heals, to a larger open wound that requires dressing changes, wound care, and can require further surgery to obtain proper and lasting wound closure.

The use of a bath tub, Jacuzzi, or anything that allows the body to submerge is not allowed, until clearance from the physician has been provided (usually three weeks after the surgery). Showering is allowed 24 hours after surgery. It is important to pat the operative areas dry and replace the dressings.
