How does LipoSonix work?
LipoSonix uses High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) to destroy fat cells. Focusing the ultrasound energy of LipoSonix at 1-2 cm below the surface of the skin avoids any burns or trauma to the skin and makes the treatment more comfortable. The fat cells are disrupted by the HIFU resulting in an average 4-5 cm (1.5-2 inches) reduction in waist size for a one hour treatment.

What happens to the fat after LipoSonix?
Your body removes the treated fat cells naturally as it would any other cellular waste. The treated fat cells are then transferred through the lymphatic and venous system to the liver. This process takes 2-4 weeks, so there are no changes in the cholesterol or triglyceride levels in the blood. Your liver metabolizes fat the same whether it is from LipoSonix or from food.
Who is a good candidate for LipoSonix?
LipoSonix is not for every patient but the screening process is straight forward. A patient should be able to pinch at least an inch of fat in the area of concern. A layer of fat less than one inch is usually not treated with this method. With a few exceptions, patients with a Body Mass Index (BMI) under 30 are the best candidates. If your BMI is above 30, you are probably better off with liposuction in Arizona than with LipoSonix. Find your BMI here. Currently LipoSonix has been approved for use on the abdomen and love handles. At North Valley Plastic Surgery we believe that the advantage of LipoSonix is that it can be used for spot area treatment essentially anywhere on the body.
