Neck Lift Phoenix
Neck lifts are done to correct loose, saggy skin, as well as tighten your neck muscles. During the initial consultation, your surgeon at North Valley Plastic Surgery will go over the various types of neck lifts, and discuss your goals and expectations. The various neck procedures include: neck liposuction, endoscopic surgery; full neck lift, and combinations of these procedures. Neck lift is also included with full face lift.
Neck lifts are done as an outpatient procedure under twilight or general anesthesia.
What to Expect During the Procedure
The neck liposuction (laser assisted-Smart-lipo) uses a laser to tighten the skin that is loose. One or more incisions are made under your chin and neck for the laser and suction cannula to be inserted. The fat will melt, and will be suctioned out of your body. The “heat” of the laser tightens the skin from underneath.
Endoscopic surgery is also useful for patients who do not have excess neck skin. This procedure will tighten your neck muscles only.
A full neck lift will address your excess skin as well as tighten your neck muscles. The incision is located behind your ears.
With all three types of procedures, dissolvable and/or Nylon sutures will be used. If Nylon sutures were used, they will have to be removed. Depending upon the procedure, a drain may be used if needed to drain of excess fluids.
What to Expect After the Procedure
After surgery, your neck area will be swollen and possibly bruised. It is important to sleep with your head elevated, as this helps reduce the swelling. Keeping your neck in neutral or slight extension is also important. An elastic chin strap will be supplied and should be worn for the next two to three weeks. The elastic strap will improve the contour of your neck and make the skin re-drape more naturally.
The purpose of the drain is to collect excess fluid from your neck to lower the risk of infection and seroma (fluid collection). Drain logs will be provided to keep a record of the output of fluid. Drains will be removed when the output meets the doctor’s specifications.
Restrictions over the next six weeks may include but are not limited to: heavy lifting, pulling, or pushing. It will take several weeks for the swelling and bruising to dissipate.
The use of bath tubs, Jacuzzis, or anything that allows your neck and face to submerge is not allowed, until clearance from the physician has been provided (usually three weeks after the surgery). Showering is allowed 48 hours after surgery. It is important to pat the operative areas dry and replace the dressings.
