Lip Augmentation Phoenix
There are two types of lip augmentation procedures that we offer, here at North Valley Plastic Surgery. The first is done with a dermal filler, such as Juvéderm ® Injectable Gel or Restylane; while, the other is a surgical procedure wherein one of our board certified plastic surgeons will insert a lip implant.
What to Expect During the Procedure
Juvéderm ® Injectable Gel and Restylane are both injectable hyaluronic acid gel products. Hyaluronic acid is a natural protein found occurring in our bodies. These fillers add hydration and volume to the injection site. After the initial injection, the Hyaluronic acid fillers will draw water into the area, adding plumpness and fullness gradually over the next few days. It is important to not take any aspirin or blood thinners the day of the treatment, because such medications can cause increased bruising and bleeding.
For surgical enhancement, a Perma Facial Implant is used. The Perma Facial Implant is an FDA approved soft, silicone implant that naturally and instantaneously enlarges your lips. This implant cannot rupture or deflate. Our board certified plastic surgeons at North Valley Plastic Surgery will determine the appropriate implant size and contour. This procedure can be done under local, twilight, or general anesthesia.
The incision is made in the oral commisure (corner of the mouth). Depending upon the surgeon at North Valley Plastic Surgery, the incision site is closed with dissolvable and/or Nylon sutures.
What to Expect During the Recovery Period
With Juvéderm ® Injectable Gel and Restylane, there is no downtime. Your lips will be swollen for 24-48 hours; and may be sensitive for up to one week. There can be minor bruising on and around your lips. After receiving Juvéderm ® Injectable Gel or Restylane, any type of facial, chemical peel, or waxing should not be done for two weeks, to allow the product to settle.
After surgery, the perioral (mouth) area will be swollen, with possible bruising. The area will be tender until it is fully healed. Sleep with your head elevated for one week, as this helps reduce the swelling. It is important to not open the mouth too wide, because such mechanical stress can cause the incision site to open.
If Nylon sutures were used, they will be removed 7-10 days after surgery, and you can shower in 48 hours. It is important to pat the operative areas dry and replace any necessary dressings.
