- If you develop nausea/vomiting, dizziness or lightheadedness please contact the office. We can assist in relieving this.
- Keep your head elevated on pillows or sit in an easy chair.
- Apply saline moistened gauze to eyes continuously for 48 hours, then as needed for comfort. Apply crushed ice or ice packs to keep it cold.
- Apply antibiotic ointment in your eyes every six hours.
- Take your Pain pills as needed. Do not take aspirin, ibuprofen or Vitamin E.

- Clean the area(s) three times daily with equal amounts of hydrogen peroxide and distilled water using a Q-Tip until your sutures are removed.
- Apply one of the following ointments: Neosporin, Bacitracin, or Polysporin.
- Stay out of the sun for 1 to 2 days after the sutures have been removed. Thereafter, protect from the sun with SPF-30 or greater. This should be continued for up to one (1) year.
- Increased redness in the area.
- Increased drainage, especially if it has a pus-like Appearance or foul odor.
- Increased Pain unrelieved with your Pain medication.
- Your oral temperature goes above 100.4 degrees.

Instructions
- Keeping your head above the level of your heart as much as possible helps to minimize the swelling and thus the discomfort.
- Numbness and stiffness of the lower lip can make eating more difficult. Start with liquids and soft foods, and progress to a more solid Diet as comfort allows.
- Sometimes, we use elastic tape to stabilize the implant in the correct position. This will be removed 2 to 3 days after surgery. You may shower the morning after surgery, so long as you keep the tape dry.
- Your sutures will be removed 5-7 days after surgery.
- Tylenol (Extra Strength) usually relieves discomfort. Should your surgeon prescribe a stronger medication, follow Directions carefully.
Directions

- May apply ice packs/frozen peas to face to reduce swelling.
- Drain bulb suction | empty as needed | document output of each drain separately.
- Cleanse surgical areas starting 1 – 2 days following surgery with equal parts hydrogen peroxide and distilled water and apply Bacitracin two times per day.
- Head of bed elevated 30 - 40 degrees to decrease swelling.
- Chin strap / ace wrap – remove and replace for dressing changes.
- You may wash your hair 36 hours after surgery. You may use your regular shampoo. Do not scrub over the stitches, staples, or screws.
- Clean the area(s) three times daily with equal amounts of hydrogen peroxide and distilled water using a Q-Tip until your sutures are removed.

Activity
- Get plenty of rest.
- Refrain from vigorous
Activity
for 3-4 weeks.
- No lifting above the head for 3-4 weeks.
- Refrain from sleeping on your stomach for 3-4 weeks.
Care of Area and Incisions
- The incisions will be taped with steri-strips. Leave these in place until they fall off themselves or need to be changed.
- If Microfoam Tape was applied (wide white tape) leave on for maximum 5 days. Remove immediately if redness swelling or blistering occurs.
Bathing
- You may shower 48 hours after surgery (or the 2nd day).
Diet
- You may eat regular food as tolerated.
Pain
- The maximum discomfort will occur in the first few days after surgery.
Appearance
- You will have bruising and swelling of the area.
- Most of the discoloration and swelling will subside in 2-3 weeks.
- The scars will be reddened and angry looking for 6-12 months. After that time they will fade and
soften.

- Apply small amounts of Bacitracin ointment three times a day.
- Reapply Head Wrap after each cleaning.
- Apply ice as needed.

- Avoid sleeping on your side.
- Remove ace wrap & gauge in 48 hours.
- You may shower in 48 hours, after showering reapply fresh gauge and Ace wrap.
- You must wear ace wrap until sutures are removed (14 days).
- Clean behind the ears three times a day with equal parts of Hydrogen Peroxide and distilled water.
- Apply a small amount of antibiotic ointment to the suture line.
- Place gauge behind ears for added protection.
- Be sure to take your Pain medication with food.
- Call the office to schedule a follow up appointment for suture removal.
- After sutures are removed you must wear the headband for 4 weeks.

Activity
- No bending, lifting or vigorous
Activity
for two weeks.
- Avoid straining activities that bring pressure to the head area.
Nose Care
- Keep the splint dry.
- Do not attempt to clean the inside of the nose with a Q-tip or any other material.
- Try to avoid blowing your nose or sneezing if possible for two weeks.
- Use the “snuffer” for comfort and drainage.
- Keep head elevated when resting. Use a humidifier or vaporizer to increase air moisture.
- Use Vaseline or cold cream around the outside of the nostril.
Bathing
- You may bathe or shower the next day, but remember to keep the nose area dry.
Pain
- The highest level of discomfort will occur the first couple of days after your surgery.
- You will probably have some discomfort related to the inability to breathe through your nose.
- Take the Pain medication as prescribed.
- Drink plenty of liquids and keep your lips moist with Vaseline, lip balm, etc.
- Clean the area(s) three times daily with equal amounts of hydrogen peroxide and distilled water using a Q-Tip until your sutures are removed.
- Apply one of the following ointments: Neosporin, Bacitracin, or Polysporin.
- Cover with gauze.
- Stay out of the sun for 1 to 2 days after the sutures have been removed. Thereafter, protect from the sun with SPF-30 or greater. This should be continued for up to one (1) year.
