Male Calf Implants Phoenix
Calf implants are used for cosmetic and, occasionally, for reconstructive purposes for men and women. Calf implants come in various sizes and shapes. They are made of soft, yet firm, silicone and are ideal for people who are unable to achieve the tone they seek from exercise.
Calf implants are done as an outpatient procedure under twilight, epidural, or general anesthesia.
Our board certified plastic surgeons here at North Valley Plastic Surgery are amongst the very few plastic surgeons in the southwestern USA who are both trained and experienced in the calf implant procedure.
What to Expect During the Procedure
The incision site is in the popliteal crease (behind the knee). A pocket is made in-between the subcutaneous (skin) and the underlying muscle. The pocket is just large enough to be able to slide in the implant. Once the implant is placed into the created pocket, dissolvable sutures will close the incision site.
What to Expect During the Recovery Period
Post-operatively, the area will be wrapped in ace bandages for 48 hours. It will take several weeks for the swelling and bruising to dissipate. It is important to keep the legs elevated, as this helps reduce the swelling. Restrictions over the next six weeks may include but are not limited to: heavy lifting, pulling, or pushing.
The use of bath tubs, Jacuzzis, or anything that allows the body to submerge is not allowed, until clearance from the physician has been provided (usually three weeks after the surgery). Showering is allowed 48 hours after surgery. It is important to pat the operative areas dry and replace the dressings.
