Epidemiology of Hair Loss
Hair loss affects approximately 35 million men and 21 million women in the United States. Over 40 percent of men will have noticeable hair loss by the age of 35, while 65 percent of women will have noticeable hair loss by the time they are 60. It is estimated that one billion dollars a year are spent on baldness treatments.
What is NeoGraft?
NeoGraft can treat male pattern baldness and female baldness in almost half the time of any other hair restoration procedure or technique currently available. The technology in the NeoGraft is the result of ten years of research, offering the next generation in automation of hair transplantation. NeoGraft has a long history of use in Europe and Asia and has been FDA cleared for use in the U.S. Thousands of NeoGraft hair transplants have been done in the with amazing results. North Valley Plastic Surgery is proud to be a provider of NeoGraft in the Phoenix area and other patients that don’t have access to NeoGraft in their area.
With NeoGraft, hair follicles are extracted without damage to the follicle and can be immediately transplanted to the selected area of the scalp. There is no need for strip grafting, scalp excision, or hair follicle separation. As NeoGraft’s automated device cuts surgery time in half, this allows the grafts to remain in optimal condition for transplantation.
Unlike the traditional FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) method that relies on the differing skill levels of each doctor or technician, NeoGraft allows consistency of placement as the technology operates under automated control. For some physicians, the FUE is a time consuming and technically difficult procedure to perform. In contrast, NeoGraft provides the ability to perform the highest level of expertise in hair restoration, in less than half the time, and with little or no pain to the patient.
The amount of hair that can be transferred with the NeoGraft is significantly higher than past techniques. FUE procedures done by hand range between 500 to 700 grafts per session while NeoGraft increases to 2,500 grafts or more. NeoGraft works by removing the hair follicles from where the hair is thicker and genetically programmed to continue to grow. Under gentle vacuum pressure, each follicle is removed individually. Unlike other grafting techniques, the gentle pressure of NeoGraft does not risk damaging the follicle, or driving it further into the skin as often happens with traditional surgery. Using NeoGraft, the doctor or technician controls the pressure and sets it to each individual’s scalp, applying just the right amount of pressure to remove the follicle safely and completely. The follicle can then be transplanted to the balding area easily. NeoGraft is the least invasive hair restoration procedure available, with the fewest complications, and provides the patient with a natural appearance. Our skilled staff at North Valley Plastic Surgery can restore your hairline artistically and beautifully.
The Science of Hair Restoration
Follicles grow at an angle and some individuals are more angled than others. The NeoGraft unit has an angled instrument to allow the technician to remove the follicle without cutting through the follicle. One of the problems with standard transplants is that the follicles are inserted into the bald area with instruments that push the follicle too aggressively. An unskilled technician can damage the hair bulb and that follicle will never grow. With our automated device, the vacuum pressure used to insert the follicle is adjusted for each person’s type of skin. The pressure is adjusted by taking into consideration the thickness of the scalp, or tightness of the skin, which differs for each individual. With the NeoGraft at North Valley Plastic Surgery you are not as dependent on the skill of the technician.
What Happens After the Procedure?
When the hair transplant has been completed, you will be provided with post-operative instructions. You can leave the office with little or no bandages and will be able to shampoo your hair the next day. Most patients resume normal activity in a day or two. Tiny crusts may form where the transplants have been placed and usually shed in 4 to 7 days. The transplanted hair will remain visible for two to three weeks and then fall out. Your patience is important because the bulb of the hair remains dormant under the skin for six to twelve weeks. In time, a new hair will grow from the bulb. Significant hair growth will begin by 4-6 months and full hair growth is normally visible by 9 to 15 months.

What is NeoGraft?
It’s a new FDA cleared technology to automatically harvest individual micro grafts or FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) and then gently implant them using a secondary automated hand piece. The process is mostly “no touch” and because of the automation, the procedure is much faster compared to previous methods.
How does NeoGraft compare to the strip method?
They are very different. The strip method requires that a scalpel is used to cut a linear section of donor tissue from the back of the head. The patient is left with a large wound that needs to be pulled together and closed using staples or sutures.
The strip method is a traumatic procedure with more bleeding, greater chance of infection, long term “tight and numb” feeling, and a large linear scar that makes short hair styles undesirable.
In the strip method, once the donor section is excised, it is handed over to a team of technicians who then dissect out individual grafts. The problem with this is that the consistency level is reduced when you have multiple technicians cutting grafts by hand. Possibility of graft transaction is increased which further decreases the graft viability rate.
Why should I choose NeoGraft over other types of Hair Restoration?
With NeoGraft at North Valley Plastic Surgery there is no scalpel needed and no traumatic strip of tissue is taken. This means there is no unsightly scar as a result.
Individual micro grafts are gently extracted using NeoGraft resulting in pristine, transplant ready grafts with no additional cutting or preparation needed. Because of NeoGraft’s automation, each graft is extracted with the same consistency in diameter and length resulting in a dramatically increased graft viability rate of 95% or greater.
There is virtually no pain, bleeding, or post procedure trauma with NeoGraft. In most cases, the donor area is completely healed and undetectable in less than a week.
Who performs the NeoGraft procedure?
All procedures at North Valley Plastic Surgery are overseen by our physicians with the assistance of highly skilled, certified technicians and registered nurses.
Why don’t hair restoration franchises offer NeoGraft?
NeoGraft is not offered at hair transplant franchises as their business model promotes high volume strip method procedures. NeoGraft prefers to partner with highly skilled Plastic Surgeons who wish to offer the more appealing FUE method.
Why is NeoGraft less expensive than some other types of hair transplantation?
Because of the automation, NeoGraft allows hair transplants to be performed much faster and more efficiently compared to the manual extraction method. The reduced number of technicians required for the surgery also decreases the cost.
How is the cost of NeoGraft calculated?
Pricing with NeoGraft is closely related to the number of grafts transplanted. This can be dependent on the level of hair loss, your specific goals, the quality and attributes of your hair. NeoGraft is marginally more expensive than the strip method, but not as expensive as “manual” FUE. Special discount prices are occasionally offered.
