Chemical Peels

Find Information On Chemical Peels, Chemical Peels of the Eyes and Natural Chemical Peels Here.

Chemical peels promote cell turnover, remove dead skin, and provide necessary nutrients to the skin, keeping it healthy. Chemical peels minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, pigmentation, acne scars, sun-damage, age spots, and freckles.

Chemical peels can be done on the following areas:

  • Arms
  • Back
  • Décolleté (collar area)
  • Face
  • Hands
  • Legs
  • Neck

What to Expect During the Treatment

Chemical peels can be done in tandem with microdermabrasion. The microdermabrasion will be done first, in order to vacuum out impurities from the skin. The chemical is wiped onto the skin, and a fan will be provided as the skin warms up, to provide comfort and cooling. Vitamins and sunscreen are massaged into the skin for hydration and protection.

What to Expect After the Treatment

Immediately following the treatment, your skin will be slightly red. This will subside within a few hours. Depending on the type of chemical peel, it is important to not wash your face until the next day. This allows for the product to penetrate further into the skin, allowing for a better result. Your skin will feel tight the next day.

Within two to three days, the skin will begin to proliferate (shed). It is important to not pick, pull, or scratch at the flaking skin. This can cause unwanted skin pigmentation, as well as scarring. Hydrocortisone will be provided to calm tightness, itching, and dryness. This can be applied as needed, while the skin sheds. Once your skin has finished shedding, your new skin will be sensitive to the sun. An SPF 15 or higher is recommended.

Modified Phenol (Exoderm type) is the most aggressive type of chemical peel you can have. This peel effectively corrects deep lines and wrinkles to a very satisfying degree. Moderate and even deep acne scars will be improved. Recovery can take 3-4 weeks. This chemical peel is done under anesthesia. This is a 2nd generation peel that is an outgrowth of the old Baker-Gordon Phenol peel. THis peel can be done on all skin types and usually produces profound results in terms of skin tightening, wrinkle correction, and acne scar improvement.

Trichloroacetic acid (TCA) peels can be very aggressive or gentle as desired. This versatile chemical penetrates as deeply as the surgeon chooses, according to the acid concentration (up to 50% strength) and the duration of application combined with the degree of rubbing (mechanical abrasion).

Aesthetician peels-range from TCA to acetic acid, lactic acid, salicylic acid, and a whole host of others. These peels can be tailored to your own individual needs, and are chosen on an individual basis.

Aesthetician chemical peels can be done as often as every four weeks.
