Fractional Laser Skin Resurfacing
Laser Skin Resurfacing uses the fractional handpiece for the Palomar StarLux 500 or the Pearl laser. The Laser Skin Treatment beam penetrates through the epidermis into the dermis with micro beams, and is a non-ablative (does not break the skin) procedure.
The fractional and the Pearl will even out skin texture, remove unwanted pigment, and break up scar tissue, as well as promote collagen production. These Laser Skin Resurfacing treatments can be done on the face, and anywhere on the body. This procedure is done by our licensed paramedical aestheticians or by one of our Registered Nurses or Plastic Surgeons (for the deeper penetrating Laser Skin Resurfacing treatments.
What to Expect During the Laser Skin Resurfacing Treatment
First, the skin is cleansed on the areas to be treated, and goggles are provided to protect your eyes. The handpiece is then placed on the area being treated. Usually, three passes are done, in order to achieve optimal results. The area will become swollen and red, very much like a sun burn. A topical anesthetic can be used to make the Laser Skin Treatment more comfortable if needed. Usually, your treatment will take one hour to complete.
What to Expect After the Treatment
Immediately following the Laser Skin Treatment, the area will be swollen and red. We will provide ice packs to help alleviate the tingling sensation. The swelling and redness will dissipate within a few days. It is normal for the skin to proliferate (shed) and it is important to not pull at the shedding skin, as that can cause unwanted scarring and excessive pigment build-up (dark spots).
Your results will evolve over a full year following the treatment. This is because your skin will heal from the inside out.
