Obagi Blue Peel removes dead skin and unwanted pigment, tightens the skin, reduces wrinkles, and gives an overall youthful appearance. Learn more.
The Obagi Blue Peel is a slow-acting TCA (trichloroacetic acid chemical face peel) peel that removes dead skin and unwanted pigment, tightens the skin, reduces wrinkles, and gives an overall youthful appearance. The Obagi Blue Peel can be done on the face, neck, chest, hands, arms and legs.
In order to have the Obagi Blue Peel, you must use the Obagi Nu-Derm skin care line for eight to twelve weeks prior to the Blue Peel treatment. The Nu-Derm line will prep your skin for this aggressive peel.
The line includes:
- Obagi Foaming Gel Cleanser or Obagi Gentle Cleanser
- Obagi Toner
- Obagi Clear
- Obagi Exfoderm
- Obagi Blender with Retin-A
- Obagi SPF 35
What to Expect During the Procedure
The Obagi Blue Peel takes about one hour for the full treatment, and is performed by one of our licensed paramedical aestheticians here at North Valley Plastic Surgery. This treatment can be done without anesthetic; the goal is to reach three layers of TCA application.
After the skin has been cleansed, the solution will be prepared for your chemical face peel. As the first layer is applied, with a sponge, you will feel an increase in warmth. A fan will be provided to keep you comfortable and cool. As the sensation decreases, without the fan, a second layer will be applied. As the second layer is applied, the aesthetician will take the steps necessary to analyze the skin. After all of the layers have been applied, and you have cooled down, the aesthetician will cleanse the skin, which will remove some of the blue tint.
What to Expect After the Procedure
You will be discharged with two containers of post-cleanser, a moisturizer, and an anti-itch cream. The cleanser will help remove any remaining blue left behind from the blue dye. The Action is a moisturizer that will soothe dry areas. The Tolereen has 0.5% hydrocortisone, which will provide relief of any itching (do not scratch your skin). Within the next two to three days, you will notice your skin will start to peel. You will peel for the next seven to ten days. The fresh skin will have a pink undertone, which will fade within a few weeks. The new skin will feel tighter, look smoother, and have less pigment. It is important to note that wearing sunscreen is very vital because you will be extremely sensitive to the sun and the damage that it can cause to your facial skin. Makeup can be worn once the peeling has finished.
