Pearl™ and Pearl™ Fractional Laser

Laser skin resurfacing improves the appearance of sun damaged skin, texture of the skin, and can help reverse the signs of aging. Learn more!

The Pearl laser and Pearl fractional laser accomplishes a beautiful skin rejuvenating procedure via Laser Resurfacing. The Pearl™ will improve the appearance of sun damaged skin, texture of the skin, and can help reverse the signs of aging. The Pearl fractional laser can help with photo damage (sun-spots and keratoses), skin tone, and deeper wrinkles. These Laser Resurfacing procedures can be done on the entire face, as well as just particular regions such as the perioral (around the mouth) and periorbital areas (around the eyes).

The Pearl is done as an in-office procedure. Both treatments can be done alone or in combination. Please inform the physician if you have a history of cold sores so that we can prescribe appropriate medication.

What to Expect During the Treatment

Before the procedure begins, topical local anesthetic cream will be applied to your skin for one hour, as this allows for more comfort. Once the numbing agent is removed from the skin, a dental block is done. This further numbs the face and mouth area. The Pearl fractional uses laser pulses that put minute holes into the dermis of the skin achieving a beautiful and effective Laser Resurfacing effect. This stimulates collagen formation to “tighten skin.” The treatment itself takes about one hour.

The Pearl Laser Resurfaces the skin and also sends heat to the deeper layers. This also takes about one hour.

What to Expect After the Treatment

Immediately following the Laser Resurfacing procedure, your face will be swollen and red, and will feel similar to a sun burn. The face needs to be occluded with Biomedic gentle soothing ointment or Aquaphor three to four times a day for the first three to four days. It is vital to not pick, rub, scrub or irritate the skin while it is healing, as this can cause scarring and/or unwanted pigmentation leaving you with a bad result.

A cleansing solution can be mixed and applied to the skin. This solution includes: one teaspoon vinegar to two cups of water. One can apply it with a clean, soft cloth. Immediately following the soak, apply the Biomedic gentle soothing ointment or Aquaphor.

If you do not want to do a soak, you can wash your face twice a day with the Biomedic gentle cleanser.

Within three to four days, the skin will start to exfoliate (shed). It is important to let the skin fall off naturally, as pulling at it can cause pigmentation damage. Exposure to the sun should be limited, as the skin is sensitive; so, having a sunscreen on the skin is necessary. Makeup can be worn once the skin has finished sloughing off.
