Face Lift Phoenix
A face lift, commonly referred to as a rhytidectomy, is a surgical procedure intended to aid in reducing the appearance of facial aging. The procedure improves the appearance of the face by removing excessive fat and tightening the facial muscles. The procedure is done under general anesthesia.
We believe that one’s facial skin must be handled with absolutely meticulous care. Much like we can improve our muscles and our health through exercise, your facial skin can be prepared and optimized to achieve the absolutely best surgical outcome. For those reasons, we pre-treat all of our face lift patients with a detailed skin care preparation regimen.
After meeting with the doctor here at Arizona Facial Plastics, our patients will meet with one of our skilled licensed paramedical aestheticians. Our mandatory skin care program includes:
- Pre-Operatively: 2 Microdermabrasion treatments. These luxurious treatments will strip away the superficial skin layers that contain dead and injured epithelium, leaving your facial skin tingly and refreshed.
- Pre-Operatively: our patients use the Obagi Nu-Derm System
- Post-Operatively: our patients use the Obagi C-RX System
- Post-Operatively: consult for Jane Iredale Makeup, so that one can easily disguise the facial appearance during the critical early healing phases.
These combined treatments allow our patients to get back to their normal lives quickly and more naturally, while avoiding excessive down time, and minimizing the risk of surgical complications by carefully preparing your facial skin.
What to Expect During the Procedure
While we do offer several different types of facelifts, there are certain common points that they all share. The incisions are located in the hairline, in the temple, in front of, and behind the ear, and usually underneath the chin.
In the Arizona Facial Plastics subperiosteal face lift, we frequently will make a small, very well hidden, incision in the lower eyelid skin. The underlying muscles are then tightened, excessive fat is removed, and the skin is sutured into place. In some cases, we will add fat from other parts of the body as a graft to fill out certain areas that may have become sunken or atrophied. The lips, cheeks, temples, and the areas around the eyes are often augmented with autologous fat grafts. Dissolvable and nylon sutures are used.
What to Expect During the Recovery Period
Post-operatively bruising and swelling will occur. It is important to not shower for 48 hours. One or two days after surgery, the bandages will be removed. Within five to seven days the sutures in front of the ears and temple area will be removed. Two weeks post-op, the sutures will be removed from behind the ear; and, if skin clips were used in the hair bearing scalp areas, these will be removed in 10-14 days.
Three weeks post-operatively, a follow-up appointment will be scheduled with the aesthetician to switch over to the Obagi C-RX System and receive a makeup consultation. One will be color matched with Jane Iredale mineral power and concealer; and will learn how to camouflage any remaining bruising or scabbing.
